Disclosure About My Recommendations
Yes, I sell things. I'm a marketer (shudder—LOL!). I receive commissions for many of the tools and training courses I recommend on this site and in its blogs and newsletters. I don't try to hide it.
Does that mean I'm some scumbag trying to trick you out of your money? Read on and judge for yourself.
I have nine+ years of experience earning a living full-time on the Internet. I offer my knowledge of what works and what doesn't to point you in a direction that helps you earn far more money than you invest in whatever tool or training I recommend. (That assumes, of course, that you use them and don't just let them sit on your hard drive).
What's in it for you in my recommendations?
That way, you come out better off than if you stumbled through the maze of ripoffs on your own and threw away your money on stuff that doesn't help you succeed.
I consider any commissions I earn as compensation for me helping you. After all, running a business is about helping people solve a problem and getting compensated for that help. That's what I strive to do—help you start and grow your business.
The cool thing is that that compensation doesn't cost you a penny more than you would otherwise invested in a tool or training course that will make you more more money than those ripoff products that I steer you away from ever would.
Where can you find reviewers who give reviews without getting commissions?
Good luck in finding them. I gave up looking for them a long time ago. And most of those who do get commissions aren't as up-front about it as I am.
I estimate that about 80-90% of the reviews and recommendations you see in the area of starting a business online contain affiliate links or some other type of compensation agreement between the writer and the company.
It's a fact of life online. The only difference between me and many of those other reviewers is that I let you know up front. Many others do everything they can to hide their connection to the products they recommend.
It is in my best interest for you to succeed
Ultimately, I want you to succeed at your business. In fact, it is in MY best interest to help YOU succeed.
Which way do I make more money—by suckering you into buying some measly little ripoff that leaves you feeling angry at me? Or by proving myself to be a reliable source of good advice to whom you come back whenever you need help?
Any way you look at it, recommending junk just to make a quick buck hurts both you and me. That's why I won't do it.
In the interest of helping you make an informed decision about my recommendations, I want you to know my personal code of conduct about my recommendations:
How do I choose the tools and training I recommend?
Most of the tools and training I recommend are ones I use myself. I have found them useful in my own business.
In some cases, I suggest tools or training I haven't tested personally, but that colleagues whom I trust have used and recommended.
I include them to fill in gaps. I have certain strategies that I rely on heavily and others that I don't use much.
So with strategies I don't use much, I rely on the experience of trusted colleagues. That way, you can get the benefit of a broader range of experience than I can provide alone.
What do I do when someone offers me a sweet deal to recommend something sight unseen?
As I said before, I don't recommend anything I don't believe in personally. People notice my recommendations, though. That means that I regularly receive emails from product sellers, asking me to recommend what they sell to my visitors.
People offer me money to write sight-unseen recommendations of their product. I NEVER accept these offers. I recommend only those tools and training I know and trust.
I also don't accept freebies of something someone asks me to recommend. If I think it's worth testing, I buy it myself. That way I test it under the same conditions that you'll experience.
What if I find that something no longer is as good as it once was?
I have added warnings to several things I once recommended when I find that they no longer are as good as they once were. A few I even stopped recommending entirely.
I want you to succeed with the tips and tools I share with you. If that means pulling a recommendation for something that no longer benefits you, I pull the recommendation—no matter how profitable recommending that tool or training has been for me in the past.
I'll find a replacement instead. That way we both still win.
Your results from any information or recommendations I give on this site depends on the effort you put into it
Finally, I want you to know one more thing. Whatever tools you buy and whoever's recommendation you buy them through, your results with them will depend on the effort you put into them.
Most new business owners invest in tools to start their business. Then they never take them any farther than that. They act as if just being in possession of some tool or training will magically shower lots of money into their bank account.
Understand this: tools are merely tools. You have to use them to get any good out of them. Just having a saw doesn't cause your house to build itself. Just having business-building tools won't cause a business to build itself, either.
Don't listen to hype!
Building a business takes time. Building a business takes effort.
Don't listen to the hype from ANY seller who says that their tool or training will make you rich with little to no effort on your part.
Some can help you move forward faster than others. None can make you an instant millionaire by working an hour a week.
Use the tools and training you get
Use whatever tools you have to build your business. Don't let them just to collect static on your hard drive.
