Niche marketing tools
Tools to help you find profitable niches for web businesses or online auctions
Finding niches for websites
The first step in finding profitable niches is to learn what people are searching for.
Wordtracker
To research this on the search engines, I use Wordtracker.
Wordtracker lets you find what people online are searching for by revealing what keywords they use.
For about $7 for a day or $25 for a week's worth of research, you can research keywords to find not only what terms are most searched, but how much competition you have for them.
All you have to do is build your keyword list through one of their keyword research tools and then do a competition search on them. Wordtracker will return a list showing both demand for your keywords and competition for them - and will calculate which keywords offer the best chance of ranking well for them.
NicheBOT
I've been experimenting lately also with a free keyword research tool similar to Wordtracker, called NicheBOT.
I haven't quite warmed up to it yet, but it's worth a try for someone who likes its cost (free).
Keyword Results Analyzer
One thing you can't do with NicheBOT that you can with Wordtracker is to run your results through KRA (Keyword Results Analyzer).
KRA is a slick tool that takes the raw results you can send yourself from Wordtracker, and sorts them neatly into related niches - a real time-saver if you do any amount of niche research!
SiteBuildIt!
And if you're still at square one with your online business, give strong consideration to building your site through SiteBuildIt!
This outstanding site-building package includes advanced niche-finding tools in a complete package that includes domain name, hosting, easy site-building and graphics tools, rank-checking tools, an incredible community of experienced site-builders to help you through every step of building your site, and all the other tools you need to carry out any type of promotion for it.
Forget all the other so-called web-building solutions. This has everything you need AND a lengthy track record of PROVEN success in helping new online businesses succeed.
Nicheology
If you'd rather have someone else do the research for you, check out Nicheology. They provide members with two fully researched niches per month plus a fully developed info product to sell to that niche. You also get four "products-in-the-rough" each month, which contain research for four niches and enough info on the niche to allow you to build your own info product.
They have a strict membership cap to avoid oversaturating the niches they develop for you. But be aware that that means that they periodically close membership when they reach their cap. At such times, you can still put your name on a waiting list to grab the next open membership slot. It's frustrating to wait, but you get terrific value for your membership.
Auction niche-finding tools
eBay's Hot List
And not to neglect our auction business owners, there are resources you can use to find what people are searching for on eBay. First to look at is eBay's own Hot List.
Especially check out the Hot Items by Category link. It lists the hottest categories and subcategories by how heavily they're searched.
Hot Item Finder
Or, to save a lot of time, you can use Hot Item Finder to track down the hot products that interest you. Type in a category and Hot Item Finder will instantly create a report of the items in that category that are getting the most bids.
You can use it to track the number of bids on items or the number of hits on a keyword, or you can use it to find the best keywords to use in creating traffic-generating titles. It really streamlines your product research.
Final thoughts
These should give you a start in finding niches that you can profit from. Find a solid niche and you'll be far ahead of all the other businesses that never get beyond playing copycat of established ones.
Helping you become the successful business owner you want to be.
