Step 5: Entice Your Visitors to Buy and Buy Again

shake handsMost Internet businesses come across as anonymous and impersonal—which only heightens people's hesitency to buy. If you want to create your website to sell, you need to go against that pattern.

No, you don't need to promise to marry your customers to get them to buy. But you'd better know what they need and how to get past their hesitency if you want your own Internet business to succeed.

Are you avoiding the two fatal mistakes of starting a business?

Check out the following ways to entice your visitors to buy and buy again:

Tools to help you create your website to build relationships with your buyers

Many new online business owners put their sites up and wait for people to come and buy. They count on a steady stream of people coming to buy and then leave.

It is much easier to sell to someone who has already bought from you than it is to sell to someone who hasn't. Thus, building relationships with customers is an important strategy.

How do you do this? Some of my favorite tools and training sites excel at helping you find ways to get people engaged with your business. They provide strategies to help you turn visitors into customers and customers into repeat customers. (see more about these tools and how their relationship-building strategies can help you accomplish this)

Copywriting Tools and Tips

One of the most important skills you can learn is copywriting. Copywriting is persuasion, pure and simple.

Do you think your products are going to sell themselves? No. You have to help your visitors see how your product or service will fix the need they have.

That's where you need a persuasive sales letter. And writing them requires good copywriting skill.

Don't make the fatal mistake of confusing persuasive copywriting with hype. Persuasive copywriting is about as far removed from long lines of exclamation points and flowery paragraphs laced with artificial excitement.

Good copywriting connects with people so effectively that they don't even recognize that someone is trying to persuade them.

Developing repeat customers with opt-in email promotion

One of the most overlooked strategies among new business owners is email marketing. I'm not talking about blasting out spam through one of the spammers whose unsolicited email in your inbox promises to "send your emails to thousands of interested customers."

You should definitely ignore those hucksters. What I'm talking about is building a list of subscribers and growing your relationship with them so you can keep your product in front of their minds.

I know. Things like "building a list" or "setting up autoresponder series" sound unfamiliar and challenging.

The benefits of doing this are enormous, though. And these processes are easier than you think. You just have to get started and build momentum. (see more about growing repeat sales with email marketing and autoresponders)

Tools for Creating Online Video

One of the fastest growing features online is video. More and more, people online are expecting to find video. It gets them more engaged with your site. Don't be left behind!

Have you steered away from video because you believe it is too technical to do? Nothing could be further from the truth!

Technology makes it easy for anyone with a video camera (and even people who don't have one) to make and post videos on their sites. How do you get started promoting your business with online video?

Here are some sites and tips to help you use video effectively on your site. (see more about creating online video to engage people more effectively on your site)
