 A rip-off or a pleasant surprise?
I'll admit that felt ripped off when I first downloaded Garage Sale Strategies. It was only 29 pages, for crying out loud! I was used to ebooks that choked my printer at 100, 200 pages or more. How could I be getting my money's worth at only 29?
Then I read it and realized that, even at 29 pages, I got a lot more than I expected.
For one thing, I hadn't paid $47, $67, or $97 like I was used to paying for those 200 page ink cartridge killers. Garage Sale Strategies was priced a lot less.
But, better than that, it was about as sharply focused as you could get.
Rather than giving me all sorts of fluff to draw out the book to a length that would make a $47, $67, or $97 purchase seem justified, it got right to the point and gave almost pure gold in its content.
What it gives you
It gave a few pages of introduction and basic tips about garage sales. Once that was done, it jumped into nothing but lists of items to watch for at garage sales. It lists things that a lot of people sell for under $5 - usually under $1 - that you can easily resell on eBay for $20 or more.
And I'm not talking about them giving just generalities! The clothing section has over two full pages that list specific brand names to look for. And it contains an additional page to describe specific clothing items to help you determine whether these items will sell or not.
Garage Sale Strategies covers the following categories in great detail:
- Books
- Cassettes and CDs
- Clothing
- Craft items
- Electronics
- Kitchenware
- Magazines (including some surprising recent ones)
- Miscellaneous
- Musical instruments
- Photographic equipment
- Sporting equipment
- Toys
Frankly, there's no way you could keep all these items in mind while you go from garage sale to garage sale. This ebook covers far more good-selling items than anyone's memory could hold. And it covers many of them in detail.
I wouldn't even try to memorize all the hot-sellers in this book. You won't be able to do it.
Read it enough to get a good overall idea of what it contains. Then focus on one or two areas of special interest. Learn them well. Then carry this book in your car when you go out. That way, if you see something that triggers your memory, you can go back to your car, look it up, and see whether it's worth buying.
Is Garage Sale Strategies for eBay Success right for you?
I recommend this book only if you're someone who already thrills in the hunt for bargains at garage sales. Don't pick this up just because being able to sell items for 5, 10, 20 times or more than what you paid for them sounds good.
If rummage saling is your passion, this book stands to make it far more profitable for you. If it isn't your passion, find a product source that better suits you. If you're going to start your own business, there's no point in starting one that is nothing more than a boring job to you.
But if making money off of your love of garage sales excites you, this book should increase your enjoyment of it -- as well as your profits. I've seen nothing more thorough, yet useable, as a reference tool to use out at the sales.
