Review of The Silent Sales Machine Hiding on eBay
Will Silent Sales Machine really help you boost your eBay sales?
If you've hung around in eBay circles for any length of time, you've likely heard of The Silent Sales Machine Hiding on eBay. It's a highly popular ebook that claims to reveal dozens of ways to increase your eBay sales through strategies that eBay doesn't tell you about.
As the popularity of Silent Sales Machine has skyrocketed, I've seen more and more dramatic claims made about it. Here's one:
"The MOST READ EBAY SUCCESS EBOOK on the planet. Widely considered the most creative book ever written about how to succeed using eBay."
Those are some pretty big claims. They deserve some careful investigation.
Is The Silent Sales Machine Hiding on eBay as popular as it claims to be?
I don't know if there's any definitive way to tell. I can tell you this, though. It has pretty consistently been the number 1 seller on ClickBank among tools for selling on eBay. And it's held that position for as far back as I've been tracking ClickBank.
It has stuck there at or near the top while hundreds of other eBay selling tools have come and gone.
And, by the numbers I've seen, Silent Sales Machine has sold nearly 100,000 copies.
To me, that's a pretty good sign that a lot of people have found Silent Sales Machine worthwhile.
Does Silent Sale Machine offer anything beyond what other eBay ebooks offer?
Here, too, I'd have to say that Silent Sales Machine passes the test. While other how-to books about eBay focus on the nuts and bolts of listing an auction, Silent Sales Machine takes you deeper into eBay than just how eBay suggests that you set yourself up.
What's different about Silent Sales Machine?
Silent Sales Machine's author, Jim Cockrum, is obsessed with what he sees as eBay's focus on turning its sellers into an unpaid sales force generating money primarily for eBay and only secondarily for themselves.
He has a good point. If you set up your eBay business exactly the way eBay suggests that you do, you end up spending all of your time listing auction after auction after auction, just to generate a small profit.
And while you do that, eBay collects fee upon fee upon fee from you.
I'm not knocking eBay here. They've set up a system that gives just about anyone a chance to make money online. They're entitled to every penny the earn.
But my point is this: eBay's income comes from you doing MORE work to generate fees for them. Do you think you can go to eBay (or ebooks that tell you eBay's preferred way of having you work for them) and get a straight answer on how you can work less, generate fewer fees and still make more money for yourself?
No way! That's where Silent Sales Machine becomes so valuable.
Silent Sales Machine's way of selling on eBay
eBay functions on these assumptions:
- You list many, many separate items for auction and pay eBay a fee for each listing
- Dozens, if not hundreds, of people view each of your listings
- Some of those bidders bid on your listings and one of them wins your auction (generating yet another fee for eBay)
- The viewers and bidders who don't win your auction go off and look for something else to buy on eBay; you likely never have any contact with them ever again
- You keep repeating this pattern over and over, generating ever more fees for eBay
Silent Sales Machine shows another way of selling on eBay:
- You list items for auction and pay eBay a fee for each listing
- Dozens, if not hundreds, of people view your listings
- Some of those bidders bid on your listings and one of them wins the auction
- Many of the viewers and bidders who don't win your auction opt in to a secondary offer that you make, giving you a chance to build an ongoing relationship with them
- You eventually turn these people, who otherwise would have been of no value to you, into long-term, repeat customers, either on eBay or off
Silent Sales Machine's tips for winning you customers who otherwise would have wandered away is huge! It makes the difference between tapping into eBay's customer base just to make an occasional sale and tapping into eBay's customer base to make sales while BUILDING AN ONGOING CUSTOMER BASE OF YOUR OWN.
A warning here
I just want to make clear that this matter of getting your bidders to opt in to a secondary offer is something you can't go in and do any way you want. eBay has strict rules about how you can and can't do things that could lead to you selling to their visitors outside of eBay.
That's why Silent Sales Machine's meticulously laid out directions are so valuable. They accomplish your goal of building an ongoing customer base without running afoul of eBay's rules.
Additional strategies in Silent Sales Machine
I probably shouldn't focus so much on this one aspect of Silent Sales Machine, though. As valuable as the strategies I described above are, there's more that this ebook covers as well.
- Finding low- and no-cost products to sell -- The second part of Silent Sales Machine helps you find low-cost or even no-cost products. If you have a taste for bargains, you'll love this section!
- Tricks of the PowerSellers -- The third part of Silent Sales Machine uncovers hidden tricks of the PowerSellers -- how people search, when people search, how to get your auctions to display for search terms that don't directly apply to your auction and many other tips.
Is Silent Sales Machine right for you?
I wouldn't recommend The Silent Sales Machine Hiding on eBay for someone who is satisfied with basing their eBay earnings entirely on the number of auctions they can find time to list. If you want to stick strictly to the way that eBay teaches you to run your auctions, this book isn't for you.
But if you're willing to experiment with the not-so-obvious opportunities that eBay provides, you'll likely see Silent Sales Machine like a kid would see walking into a candy shop. It's jammed with lots of yummy tips.
One thing's for sure. It will open your eyes as to how much more money you could be making on eBay.
