I guess I have a bit of a soft spot for 'The Unfair Advantage to Winning the Search Engine Wars.'
 When I found myself building my first commercial website, I realized my experience creating pages for the employee website of a Fortune 100 company left me in the dark about writing to be found by the search engines.
I bought a couple of books on building commercial websites and then ran into 'Unfair Advantage.' I've long since tossed those other books but still keep my 'Unfair Advantage' on hand with its monthly updates.
I won't say the book made me an instant expert, but it made me good enough to earn some top 10 rankings for my client even as a complete beginner.
There's still nothing I would more comfortably recommend for someone who wants to optimize sites for the search engines than 'Unfair Advantage.'
What it contains
It contains both general optimizing tips that apply to all the search engines, as well as specific information about each major search engine and directory and how to give your site the best chance of ranking highly with them.
And it also contains what I feel is a very underrated feature: information about the optimization techniques you want to avoid.
This is a lifeline for anyone new to seo, unmasking the techniques that can get your site banned.
The info in this section helped me save my client thousands of dollars that he otherwise would have spent on the many scam artists who contacted us every day.
